HOW TO SET GOALS AND STICK TO THEM

By focusing on your dreams and imagining they are a reality in the same way athletes visualize their trophies, your brain won’t be able to see the difference between what is real and what is imagination.

This process will make you experience a rise in levels of dopamine and serotonin which are responsible for our motivation, happiness, and wellbeing.

In order to attain this state, you need to set meaningful goals that will make you want to do things you didn’t do before. For example, if you want to get fitter, you need to set a measurable goal of getting up half an hour earlier every day to go for a walk or a run.

You may want to improve your English-speaking level, so you will need to practice your English speaking for half an hour each day in order to be more fluent.

Forget self-sabotage when you try to stick to your goals

When you are trying hard to motivate yourself and to stick to your goals; avoid the trap of self-sabotaging.

  • Why do you want to achieve this goal?
  • What has not stuck to it cost you this year?
  • How would you feel about yourself if you achieve it?

After answering these questions, you will end up having a meaningful goal.

For example, you will better know when you ignored your work-life balance goal, it led you to depression or burn-out. It cost you also valuable time with your loved one which is something you are trying to improve over years. You will know also that by avoiding working on weekends, you will enjoy your family time, be happier, more fulfilled, and relaxed.

Learn how to motivate yourself and insert these habits into your daily planner in a compelling way. For example, instead of saying finish working hours at 6 pm, put it as 6 pm quality personal time with my family.

If you find that even by following these steps you are still sabotaging yourself, then this is happening at a deeper level. Your subconscious. Self-sabotaging will be the reason that is preventing you from attaining your goals.

Old habits and beliefs are rooted deep in our brain, they can keep coming back to our behaviors’ this is the factor that is holding you back from making your goal-setting process a success. So, the solution is to work out your goals, fix them in a measurable way, find your reason why and remove any deeper obstacles or blocks.
