About the role :

Cenovus Energy is looking to fill the position of Decision Analyst based in Calgary.

Reporting to the Manager, Decision Analysis, this successful candidate will be responsible for providing analytical and decision support for a wide variety of opportunities seeking funding from across the organization.

Responsibilities :

  • Integrate with project teams to provide; consistent, objective, and appropriate economic evaluations, facilitation of critical thinking and efficient interaction with the Capital Allocation Framework and decision/stage gate processes.
  • Support quantitative risk assessment of business and investment decisions under uncertainty of technical and economic factors.
  • Design, build, use and assure industry leading evaluation models & tools to efficiently meet the needs of the business.
  • Will be the primary builder/coder for the team & will be exposed to leading edge evaluation and analysis methods.
  • Contribute to the overall corporate capability and community of practice for Decision Analysis by creating positive experiences with the opportunity teams and contributing to the available tools, resources & training

Candidate requirements :

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • 8+ years of Engineering, Geosciences, Business or Economics experience in the Oil & Gas Industry is preferred.
  • Consideration will be given to keen individuals with less than 8 years of experience but have a reputation of showing aptitude to learn quickly, balance their priorities and being a creative problem solver.
  • Programming/Coding (e.g., Python, R, etc.) would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and build sophisticated models for analysis and automation.
  • The successful candidate will be a key resource for the team to advance our efficiency of analysis and progressing our high-quality analysis.
  • Understanding of statistics & probabilities and application to economic modelling (Monte Carlo analysis, decision trees).
  • Strong commercial/business and financial skills.
  • Exposure to reservoir engineering, production operations, capital projects, downstream, marketing fundamentals, economics, portfolio optimization, risk, and uncertainty assessment.
  • Results oriented, proactive, influencing and a self-starter.
