About the role : 

Reporting to the Manager, Facilities Assurance and Asset Management, the Engineering Specialist, Maintenance, Station Facilities is responsible for Station Facilities assets and provides building and parking infrastructure repair and rehabilitation support to the Rapid Transit Engineering & Asset Management (EAM) Manager, Facilities Assurance and Asset Management for GO stations.

The role is responsible to verify compliance with requisite engineering and other technical requirements, provides oversight of technical work performed under various contract arrangements, and undertakes field inspections, condition assessments including the development of strategies for preventative and/or remediation work necessary to correct asset defects.

Responsibilities : 

  • Provides technical expertise related to building and parking infrastructure repair and rehabilitation using engineering principles and practices to assess and verify compliance with technical requirements and standards and/or define necessary remediation work within the station facilities asset class including undertaking field inspections, condition assessments and the development of strategies for preventative and/or remediation work necessary to correct asset defects.
  • Supports and assists in processes to identify and rectify points of failure and improvement initiatives necessary to enhance safety, reliability and operability of the asset base and systems improvements, and support the development of recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Supports, the development of scope, procurement of professional services, physical works, and repair/maintenance contracts, including supporting in market activities and responses to RFI’s and contract submittal review.
  • Supports the review and definition of recommendations for improvements in internal practices and processes and those of relevant delivery teams, contractors, and consultants and, as directed, leads improvement actions within the area of assigned accountability and engineering discipline.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively with internal and external business clients, partners, and external stakeholders in the development of station facilities functions.
  • Presents materials to peers and senior management to engage and promote awareness of, and support for, station facilities needs and apprise them of critical issues for escalation or collaborative resolution.
  • Authorizes expenditures in accordance with approved work procedures and authorizes and approves consultant invoices and contract payment certificates for payments; reviews and evaluates consultant or contractor cost claims.

Candidate requirements : 

  • Completion of a University Degree in Civil Engineering or related industry experience, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in building and parking infrastructure repair and rehabilitation planning, design, and construction.
  • P.Eng, designation or C.E.T. certification will be an asset.
  • Proficient in building and parking infrastructure repair and rehabilitation which involve engineering, design, planning, validation, transition to operations and hand back of asset class infrastructure.
  • Supports the progressive validation and compliance assurance for CAPEX and OPEX budget development and business process authorizations (Project Gateways)
  • Knowledgeable in applicable industry, legal and regulatory standards, and requirements respective to building and parking infrastructure (e.g. Ontario provincial and municipal standards and best practices, building codes, contracts, and environmental legislation)
  • Knowledgeable in the identification, and development of mitigation strategies for unplanned operational and performance disruptions.
  • Knowledgeable in the planning and development of asset repair/maintenance and condition monitoring programs and the oversight and evaluation of these programs for external contracted parties where Metrolinx has outsourced asset management responsibilities to derive Reliability Centered (RCM) and Risk based (RBM) maintenance programs for Metrolinx assets and contracted services.
